As Covid-19 cases mount, Sabah govt seeks MCO-like measures

COVID-19 | Sabah's Covid-19 disaster management committee has sought strict lockdown measures to deal with the recent surge in new cases in the state.

In a statement today, Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor said that the new measures sought by the committee today will still need National Security Council approval.

The measures sought include:

• Allowing only businesses providing essential services and goods to operate;

• Banning dine-in customers;

• Closing all tamu, pasar malam and farmers markets;

• Closing all houses of worship;

• Closing all public parks, recreation centres and playgrounds;

• Closing all libraries, schools, childcare centres, nurseries and kindergartens;

• Limiting public bus capacity to 50 percent and limiting car occupants; and

• Re-gazetting quarantine stations as hospital extensions.

Sabah is one of the worst-hit states following the latest wave in Covid-19 cases.

According to Hajiji, there are 1,206 people being treated for Covid-19 in Sabah as of yesterday.

The committee had made these recommendations after Sabah recorded triple-digit new cases, consecutively between Oct 1 and yesterday.
