Covid-19 (Nov 5): 1,009 new cases, record number of active cases

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 1,009 new Covid-19 cases and six deaths in the 24-hour period ending noon today.

A new record was set today for the number of active cases.

Leading indicators in brief:

  • Active cases = 10,503 ↑ (164 more than previous day)
  • Patients in intensive care = 78 ↓ (4 fewer than previous day)
  • Intubated patients = 28 ↑ (1 more than previous day)
  • Deaths = 6

According to the Health Ministry, five deaths were reported in Sabah while Selangor reported one.

The cumulative death toll for Sabah stands at 143. Sabah has reported 51.6 percent of the country's total Covid-19 related deaths, which is at 277.

Of the six deaths, two were foreigners, both in Sabah. All the victims were from age 54 to 92.

Of the 1,009 new cases, nine were imported. They involved four foreigners and five Malaysians.

Sabah continued to report the highest number of new cases (55.9 percent), followed by Klang Valley regions (19.6 percent), and Labuan (9.4 percent).

A breakdown of the new locally-transmitted cases is as follows:

Sabah (564 new cases)

According to Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, the ministry classified five new clusters today.

The Sutera cluster involved the Kota Kinabalu district in Sabah. The two index cases reported symptoms on Nov 2. A total of 15 cases have been attributed to this cluster.

The Ria-30 cluster involved the Tuaran district. This cluster was discovered by screening an entire community since Nov 2. Eleven cases have been attributed to this cluster.

The Tamar cluster involved the Petaling district in Selangor. The index case reported symptoms on Nov 1. 10 cases have been attributed to this cluster.

The Intan cluster involved the Northeast district in Penang. The index case, a foreigner, was detected when attempting to leave the country on Oct 29. Eight cases have been attributed to this cluster.

The Danau cluster involved the Titiwangsa district in Kuala Lumpur. The index case reported symptoms on Oct 27. Eight cases have been attributed to this cluster so far.
