Covid-19 (Nov 6): New record of 1,755 Covid-19 cases in a day, two deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 1,755 new Covid-19 cases and two deaths in the 24-hour period ending at noon today.

This is the highest number of cases in a single day ever reported in Malaysia, of which only three cases today were imported.

Most of the cases were reported in Sabah (1,199 cases), followed by Penang (192), and Selangor (164).

Leading indicators in brief:

  • Active cases = 11,530 ↑ (1,027 more than previous day; new record for second consecutive day)

  • Patients in intensive care = 83 (five new cases since yesterday)

  • Intubated patients = 32 (four new cases since yesterday)

  • Deaths = 2

According to the Health Ministry, one death occurred at the Duchess of Kent Hospital in Sandakan, Sabah, and another at Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar, Kedah.

This puts the total cumulative number of deaths at 279.

Of the 1,199 cases in Sabah today, 741 cases or 42.2 percent were from clusters related to prisons or detention centres.

This includes PTS Tawau cluster (372 cases), the Sandakan prison cluster (184 cases), the Seberang Perai Prison (162 cases), the Tembok cluster (10 cases), the Kepayan prison cluster (eight cases), the remand prison cluster (three cases) and the Benteng LD cluster (two cases).

Meanwhile, there were three imported cases today involving two Malaysian citizens and one foreigner. They arrived from Saudi Arabia (one case in Sarawak), South Africa (one case in Kuala Lumpur) and Myanmar (one case in Johor).

There were also three new clusters today that are the Mampulut cluster involving Keningau, Sabah with 28 Covid-19 positive cases so far, the Fores cluster involving Petaling, Gombak and Klang in Selangor as well as Kepong in Kuala Lumpur, with 20 Covid-19 positive cases so far and the Rengas cluster involving Kuala Kangsar, Perak which has nine Covid-19 positive cases so far.
