Covid-19 (Dec 27): 1,196 new cases, triple digits in three states and KL

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 1,196 new Covid-19 cases.

Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Sabah and Johor all recorded more than 100 new infections.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, in a statement, also reported 997 Covid-19 patients have recovered from the virus today.

This brings the cumulative cases to 105,096 versus cumulative recoveries of 84,411.

Leading indicators:

Active cases: 20,233 ↑ (198 more than the previous day)

Patients in ICU: 111 ↑ ( Three more than the previous day)

Intubated patients: 50 (unchanged)

Deaths: 1 ↓ (One less than the previous day)

The latest fatality put the death toll at 452, representing a mortality rate of 0.43 percent.

The sole death today is Patient 101,762, who is a 71-year-old Malaysian man.

He was brought in dead at Hospital Queen Elizabeth in Kota Kinabalu. There was no information on whether he suffered from any pre-existing conditions.

Perlis was the sole state not to report any new Covid-19 case today.

In Selangor, 153 out of 392 new cases were detected through "other screenings".

Based on Selangor Health Department data, 31 cases were detected from those with symptoms.

Four were detected after subjecting themselves to voluntary screening, three detected when screened prior to taking up a new job and three detected among healthcare workers.

Noor Hisham, in his statement, said 213 out of 484 Covid-19 clusters are still active.

This is after taking into account that the Kerengge cluster, Alia cluster and Gemilang cluster were declared over.

However, a new cluster was detected today. The Jalan Sedco cluster involves the districts of Tawau and Kalabakan in Sabah.

The index case is Patient 92,107 who was discovered through a screening of symptomatic individuals on Dec 20.

It had since developed into a workplace cluster and as of today, 14 out of 26 people who were screened were found to have been infected with the virus.
