Covid-19 (Jan 18): 3,306 new cases, death toll at 605

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry today reported 3,306 new Covid-19 cases. All but seven of these cases were locally transmitted.

Health Ministry director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also reported 2,293 recoveries.

However, this was still an overall increase of more than 1,000 new Covid-19 patients under treatment.

To date, 161,740 Covid-19 cases have been recorded, of which 122,344 (75.6 percent) have recovered.

Leading indicators:

Active cases: 38,791 ↑ (1,009 more than the previous day, new record)

Patients in ICU: 226 ↓ (14 less than the previous day, new record)

Intubated patients: 94 ↑ (One more than the previous day)

Deaths: 4 (↓ Three less than the previous day)

The latest fatalities put the death toll at 605. The four who perished were from Selangor (2), Terengganu (1) and Sabah (1). Details are as follows:

Patient 120,858 (Death 602) - 77-year-old Malaysian man. Died at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Kota Kinabalu. Had a history of high blood pressure, dyslipidemia, hyperthyroid and adrenal insufficiency. 

Patient 131,052 (Death 603) - 91-year-old Malaysian man. Died at Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Kuala Terengganu. Had a history of diabetes, heart disease, chronic kidney disease and gout.

Patient 145,018 (Death 604) - 78-year-old Malaysian woman. Died at Sungai Buloh Hospital. Had a history of high blood pressure and stroke.

Patient 156,403 (Death 605) - 59-year-old Malaysian man. Died at Sungai Buloh Hospital. Had a history of high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease and chronic liver disease.

Noor Hisham said a total of 299 out of 660 clusters are still active but only 81 contributed to the new cases today.

He also announced that two clusters have been resolved, namely the Mesra cluster and Samudera cluster in Sabah.

However, he reported the emergence of nine new clusters in Sabah (2), Kuala Lumpur (2), Selangor (1), Johor (1), Negeri Sembilan (1), Pahang (1) and Kelantan (1).
