Legal Profession Qualifying Board director Khalid Yusoff was arrested by the police this afternoon in connection with marks tampering in the Certificate of Legal Practice examinations.
Board member and Bar Council chairman Mah Weng Kwai confirmed the arrest when contacted.
Khalid has been in the limelight after he was implicated by the board in the alleged tampering of this year's CLP results. He has been suspended by the board from his post since yesterday.
The board, after a meeting last Tuesday, said it discovered that there were discrepancies in the marks in the examination papers and the master sheet. The board said Khalid was solely responsible for transferring the marks to the master sheet.
The board said then that Khalid oversaw the preparation, conduct and marking of the examination after which he would table the results together with the examiners' report to the board for approval.
A police report was lodged by the board on the same day against Khalid, who has been the director since 1993*. He was interviewed by police two days ago.
Picked at home
The police had also interviewed the board members.
The other members of the board are Attorney General Ainum Mohd Saaid, High Court Judge Abdul Wahab Patail, Federal Court Judge Siti Norma Yaacob, Federal Court chief registrar Abdul Wahab Said Ahmad who also doubles up as the board secretary, and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Assoc Prof Shamsuddin Suhor.
Bukit Aman commercial crimes director Maizan Shaari said Khalid was picked up at his house in Shah Alam earlier today.
"He has been detained to facilitate investigations into the alleged leaks of the CLP examination papers and the alleged tampering of marks," Maizan was quoted as saying in the online version of the New Straits Times .
On Saturday, Khalid denied that he had tampered with the marks.
"I would not call it (altering the marks) tampering," Khalid was quoted as saying in The Sun .
