Actor Benjy Ibrahim passes away
Malaysian actor Benjy Ibrahim, who was serving time in an Indonesian prison, reportedly passed away at a hospital in Medan, North Sumatra, today. He was 43.

Malaysian actor Benjy Ibrahim, who was serving time in an Indonesian prison, reportedly passed away at a hospital in Medan, North Sumatra, today. He was 43.
According to his family members, the eldest son of Malaysian actress Azean Irdawaty died while hospitalised for chronic asthma.
“Ben (Benjy) passed away today at a hospital in Medan, Indonesia, from asthma,” said his father, Khairil Anwar Zainal Mukhtar Rashidi, as quoted by Astro Awani.
An Indonesian court had in 2017 sentenced Benjy to 11 years in jail after he was found guilty of drug smuggling.
Meanwhile, Benjy’s sister Inessa Irdayanty said the actor suffered from breathing difficulties at around 11am this morning and was taken to hospital.
However, the actor, whose real name is Khaeryll Benjamin Ibrahim, could not be saved.
“Benjy had long suffered from chronic asthma and lung problems, aside from routine hospitalisation since several years ago.
“Our family gave permission for Medan prison authorities to bury his body there,” she said.
“The burial rites will be performed tomorrow,” said Inessa in a statement.
The actor left behind a son, 16-year-old Firdaus Juan Benjamin, and former wife Safiya Stephanie Kar-Leng Lee.
Among his best known television dramas and series included Astana Idaman, Kerana Cintaku Saerah and Kasih Suci.
