Umno leaders quit varsity board posts

Umno supreme council member Abdul Rahman Dahlan has resigned as a Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) board member with immediate effect.
In announcing his resignation, Abdul Rahman (above) thanked Parit Sulong MP Noraini Ahmad, who yesterday stepped down as higher education minister, for the opportunity given to serve.
"However, in line with the Umno supreme council's decision on Aug 3, I, as a supreme council member, will abide by the party's decision.
"Therefore, I hereby resign as a UMS board member with immediate effect," said the former Kota Belud MP.
Abdul Rahman is the second Umno leader to let go of a university board position after Balik Pulau Umno chief Shah Headan Ayoob Hussain Shah announced his resignation last night as a board member of Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM).
"I hereby announce my resignation as a UPM board member.
"This is part of my duty as a party member who will continue to abide by and respect any decisions by the party," Shah said on Facebook.
He also shared his resignation letter dated yesterday which stated it would take place with immediate effect.
Abdul Rahman and Shah's moves follow three other Umno leaders who quit their appointed posts in a number of government-linked companies.
They are party vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin who resigned as chairperson of Boustead Holding Bhd, Sabah Umno Youth chief Abdul Aziz Julkarnain who stepped down as Boustead independent and non-executive director, and Umno supreme council member Razlan Rafii who quit as a Lembaga Tabung Angkatan Tentera (LTAT) board member.
The resignations came after Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi led 11 of the party's MPs in withdrawing the party's support for embattled Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
At the cabinet level, apart from Noraini, Lenggong MP Shamsul Anuar Nasarah on Tuesday also resigned as energy and natural resources minister.
