MALACCA POLLS | BN has officially won the Malacca state polls with a two-thirds majority.

With all the results declared, BN has won 21 seats - 18 Umno, two MCA, and one MIC.

This is a major turnaround for the coalition, which previously had only 13 (all Umno) out of the 28 seats. MCA and MIC did well as they did not win any seats three years ago at the 2018 general election.

With a two-thirds majority, BN can amend the state constitution.

The coalition has pledged to do so in order to create five seats in the Malacca legislative assembly for appointed members.

This, said BN, was to create "political stability" in a legislative assembly as defections of four state representatives led to the fall of the previous government.

The election saw BN's rival Perikatan Nasional (PN) winning two seats - including one BN stronghold Sungai Udang. Key PN coalition party Bersatu had two seats going into this state election.

Pakatan Harapan, meanwhile, won just five seats compared to the 13 seats it won in 2018 (5 DAP and 1 Amanah). Coalition party PKR suffered a crushing defeat, losing all of the 11 seats it contested.
