Kampung Berembang residents in Ampang gathered at the Selangor state executive council building in Shah Alam this morning to submit a memorandum to Menteri Besar Dr Mohd Khir Toyo on the demolition of their village by the Ampang municipality.
Supporting the residents were NGOs and representatives from other villages that have experienced a similar fate.
Amongst the speakers that addressed the crowd were PAS Youth chief Salahuddin Ayob and DAP Sungai Pinang state assemblyperson Teng Chang Khim.
Amongst the four state executive councillors who accepted the memorandum was Abdul Fatah Iskandar who is chairman of the State Infrastructure and Public Facilities Committee.
The event ended without incident although there was an anxious moment when one of the village representatives began pleading with the excos to help solve their housing problems and FRU personnel began to move in.
