Harapan wants leadership change at MCMC for trying to silence flood critics
Pakatan Harapan is calling for a leadership change at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for allegedly trying to silence people critical of the government's handling of the recent floods.
This was after the MCMC unsuccessfully tried to get Twitter to remove comments critical of the government's emergency response to the floods.
"We deeply regret the MCMC being used as a government tool to shut the mouth of the people at a time when people are desperate and suffering due to the floods.

This was after the MCMC unsuccessfully tried to get Twitter to remove comments critical of the government's emergency response to the floods.
"We deeply regret the MCMC being used as a government tool to shut the mouth of the people at a time when people are desperate and suffering due to the floods.
"The Government and MCMC, in particular, should be reminded that the people have a right to voice out on pressing issues be it on the cost of living, disasters or the weak leadership in Putrajaya.
"Therefore, we urge for the MCMC chairperson and chief executive officer to be immediately dropped," the coalition's presidential council said in a statement.
The statement was signed by PKR president Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Mohamad Sabu, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng and Upko president Madius Tangau.
The MCMC chairperson is Fadhlullah Suhaimi Abdul Malek (above).
On Wednesday, a Twitter user said he had received an email from Twitter informing him about a request made by MCMC to the micro-blogging site to remove his Twitter posts.
"In the interest of transparency, we are writing to inform you that Twitter has received a request from MCMC regarding your Twitter account that claims the following content violates the law(s) of Malaysia.
"We have not taken any action on the reported content at this time as a result of this request," said the email from Twitter.
Based on the email, the contents that MCMC wants to be removed include a tweet where the netizen criticised a flood fundraising event that involved Women, Family and Community Development Minister Rina Harun.
The other content that MCMC took issue with was a tweet that criticised Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Noh Omar over the latter's statement regarding the eligibility of flood victims to claim government aid.
