The PAS Syura Council has stressed that it is important to strengthen Muafakat Nasional and Perikatan Nasional (PN) to face the next general election, said the party's spiritual leader Hashim Jasin.
In a statement today, he said this decision was made by the council yesterday in an effort to unite the political power of Muslims for the sake of the country and Islam.
"Seat negotiations among the Malay-Muslim parties must be carried out to the maximum to avoid a three-cornered fight in the 15th general election and to gain victory by a large majority," he said.
He reminded the parties not to quarrel among themselves or they will be destined to fail and lose their strength.
He added that the spirit of political cooperation in Muafakat and PN should always be nurtured by the leaders and members of Malay-Muslim parties via meetings and continuous deliberation.
"Every one of us must always be open-minded, forgive each other, and refrain from using the media, including social media, as an intermediary medium to resolve crisis and disputes," he said.
A PAS Syura Council meeting was held yesterday to discuss the mission of the Islamic party in the next polls.
For the record, Umno and PAS formed the Muafakat alliance in September 2019 as an avenue to unite the Malay-Muslim vote in elections.
However, the cooperation between Umno and PAS appeared to have taken a hit when the Islamist party opted to work with PN, led by former prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is the president of Bersatu.
Umno has severed its ties and decided not to cooperate with Bersatu in the next general election.
The recent Nov 20 Malacca state election saw BN, which went solo against PN and Pakatan Harapan, sweep 21 out of 28 state seats. Of BN's 21, Umno won 18.
