Floods: Govt to repair damaged homes, give RM2,500 for household goods
Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced a slew of home repair measures for homes that have been damaged by floods.

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced a slew of home repair measures for homes that have been damaged by floods.
He also announced a RM2,500 cash aid for flood victims to buy household goods.
Detailing the home repair measures in his new year address, Ismail Sabri said families whose homes were not too badly damaged can get aid of up to RM5,000.
As for those whose homes suffered serious damages, he said the government itself will manage repairs with a cost of up to RM15,000.
For homes that were destroyed or no longer occupiable after the floods, the government will provide up to RM56,000 to build a new home.
Meanwhile, the prime minister said those whose household items have been damaged by the floods will get a RM2,500 aid "to buy necessities according to their needs".
He said the RM2,500 cash aid will help to prevent NGOs and volunteers from giving overlapping aid in the form of appliances and such to victims.
It is unclear how the government will assess damages to determine how much aid each family is qualified to, as well as how flood victims can apply for the home repair and household goods aid.
Tropical depression 29W caused severe flooding across Central Peninsular Malaysia two weeks ago.
Further flooding is occurring now as the monsoon batters the peninsula's east coast.
The new aid is on top of a slew of other aid measures the government has announced for flood victims.
The other aid measures include RM1,000 for each household affected, RM10,000 compensation for flood deaths, RM1,000 voucher to repair flooded vehicles, and RM500 voucher to buy electrical goods.
