PAS sacks former rep for standing as independent in Bukit Pasir

JOHOR POLLS | PAS has sacked former Bukit Pasir state assemblyperson Najib Lep for contesting as an independent candidate against his own colleague Nur Igbal Abd Razak in the Johor state election, said party deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

He said Najib had rejected another winnable seat offered to him.

"I am firm (in my belief) that all members must adhere to the decisions made by the party. With his action, he automatically loses his party membership.

"All members are now required to throw their support behind the PAS candidates who represent Perikatan Nasional (PN)," Tuan Ibrahim was quoted by Free Malaysia Today as saying.

"As a deputy chief (of Bukit Pasir PAS division), Najib should have adhered to the party’s decision."

Najib was the sole PAS elected representative in Johor state legislative assembly following the 2018 general election.

PAS fielded Nur Igbal in the Bukit Pasir seat, which will see a six-cornered fight between PAS, BN, Pejuang, Pakatan Harapan and another independent candidate.

Yesterday, Najib surprised many by nominating himself as an independent candidate for that seat.

Najib was reported by Sinar Harian as stating that he was prepared to accept any action taken by the party.

"Few days before PN unveiled its candidates, I know that I would be transferred to another seat. This is unfair to the Bukit Pasir residents whom I have been serving.

"PAS has the right to make any decision against my action, but I still hope they would understand why I have to do this. My duty has not yet finished in Bukit Pasir," he said.
