The Simpang Renggam District Council in Johor has issued a stop work order on the bungalow belonging to Machap state assemblyperson Abdul Hamid Abdul Rahman.

A council spokesperson said the order was issued two weeks ago because the building plan has not been approved.

He said work can resume if the plan is approved.

Currently, the Kluang Land and Mines Department is studying an application to have the status of the land where the bungalow is sited changed from agriculture to commercial.

The spokesperson said only when this application is approved, the district council can process the building plan.

Abdul Hamid's bungalow is being constructed on a 5,000sq feet area. There are 16 shoplots and 15 other houses being built in the area.

The land title is jointly held with 14 others and there has been no application for an individual title.

RM10,000 fine

The spokesperson said the district council will get feedback from other departments such as the Public Works Department, the Irrigation and Drainage Department, Syarikat Air Johor, Telekom Malaysia and Tenaga Nasional before approving the plan.

"Until now the application has not been approved so we have no choice but to stop work on the bungalow," he added.

Recently, Abdul Hanid admitted to malaysiakini that the district council has yet to approve his bungalow, which is being built in heart of the Simpang Renggam town.

Meanwhile, the spokesperson also said that Abdul Hamid will be slapped with a RM10,000 fine for proceeding with construction work without an approval.

"The fine will be issued together with the building plan approval and if he fails to pay, he will not receive a Certificate of Fitness (CF)," he said.
