Covid-19 (April 2): 14,692 new cases, 56 new deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 14,692 new Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,234,087.

Active cases currently stood at 201,233, down 26.5 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (8,662)

Kuala Lumpur (1,311)

Johor (664)

Sarawak (596)

Perak (555)

Pahang (535)

Kedah (464)

Penang (440)

Negeri Sembilan (394)

Malacca (317)

Sabah (234)

Terengganu (210)

Kelantan (146)

Putrajaya (68)

Another 56 deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which 11 were declared as “brought in dead”.

Over the past week, an average of 45.6 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 68.1, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,069 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 86 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 2,235 deaths last month and 770 deaths in February.

The states with the highest deaths were Selangor, Perak and Kuala Lumpur, each of which recorded 10 deaths, followed by Johor (8), Kedah (7), Malacca (3) Pahang (2), Negeri Sembilan (2), Penang (1), Sarawak (1), Sabah (1) and Terengganu (1).

There are currently 3,925 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 261 are in intensive care.
