Police have arrested the second man suspected of attacking an international student after she used her mobile phone to record them catcalling her.

Sentul district police headquarters chief Beh Eng Lai said the 34-year-old suspect was arrested at the Taman Beringin people's housing project, Jinjang Utara, in Kepong at 11.20am today.

He said the suspect, who has five past criminal records, admitted to hitting the woman with a stick.

The suspect also admitted to catcalling her and that he had attacked the woman after she began recording him.

Police yesterday arrested the suspect's accomplice, a 32-year-old man, also in Jinjang Utara. The accomplice had two previous criminal records.

The victim was with a friend outside the Publika Shopping Gallery in Kuala Lumpur on April 21 when two men on a motorcycle catcalled her.

The 23-year-old student then used her mobile phone to record the incident.

The men then approached her in an apparent attempt to take her mobile phone, and a scuffle ensued.

The student claimed she was bitten on the arm and hit on the back with a stick.

The victim and her friend then fled to a nearby school, where a security guard opened a gate for them. Following this, the assailants sped off.

Beh said police have also seized the motorcycle used in the incident.

The case is being investigated under Sections 393 and 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and attempting to commit robbery.

If found guilty, the attackers can be imprisoned for up to seven years and one year for the respective offences and also be liable to a fine.
