Bersih praises Anwar-Najib debate, wants to see more ahead of GE15
Electoral reform group Bersih lauded the public debate between opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak, stating that there should be more similar debates in the run-up to the 15th general election (GE15).
"The debate was conducted professionally, and both debaters showed their quality and maturity.

"The debate was conducted professionally, and both debaters showed their quality and maturity.
"Bersih is of the view that open debates are a positive step to promote a culture of healthy and mature political competition.
"We urge for similar debates to be organised by government and private media before GE15, particularly among prime ministerial candidates, political party leaders and independent candidates, about their manifesto and vision," the Bersih steering committee said in a statement.
To support such efforts, Bersih said it had also worked to organise debates between election candidates for the recent Sarawak and Johor elections.
GE15 is not due until the second half of next year, but there is speculation that early polls could be called amid Umno asserting pressure on the government.
Anwar and Najib engaged in a debate last Thursday, May 12, on the fate of Sapura Energy Bhd and other current affairs.
Financially troubled Sapura Energy is a public-listed firm but has substantial investments from the government, including Perbadanan Modal Berhad (PNB), through various government trust funds such as Amanah Saham Bumiputera and Amanah Saham Wawasan.
