Covid-19 (May 25): 2,430 new cases, 6 deaths

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 2,430 new daily Covid-19 cases yesterday, higher than the average over the past week.

However, active cases stood at 25,172, down 6.1 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (1,272)
Kuala Lumpur (366)
Penang (119)
Perak (117)
Negeri Sembilan (114)
Malacca (99)
Johor (72)
Kedah (69)
Sabah (66)
Sarawak (49)
Putrajaya (38)
Pahang (20)
Terengganu (14)
Kelantan (8)
Labuan (6)
Perlis (1)

Another six deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday.

These deaths were reported in Johor (3), Sabah (1), Sarawak (1) and Putrajaya (1).

Over the past week, an average of 3.3 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 4.9, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the downtrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,653 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 106 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 564 deaths last month and 2,235 deaths in March.

There are 1,076 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 31 are in intensive care.

There were 446 Covid-19 patients who were admitted yesterday. The level of daily admissions is relatively low, similar to levels seen in mid-October 2020.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (147) followed by Johor (81) and Sabah (76).

The number of patients in intensive care has not been this low since early May 2020.
