Covid-19 (June 15): 2,320 new cases, uptick in ICU

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry reported 2,320 new daily Covid-19 cases yesterday.

Active cases currently stood at 23,886, up 3 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (829)
Kuala Lumpur (668)
Penang (145)
Perak (118)
Negeri Sembilan (105)
Sabah (98)
Kedah (64)
Malacca (64)
Sarawak (62)
Johor (56)
Putrajaya (50)
Pahang (26)
Kelantan (13)
Terengganu (10)
Perlis (9)
Labuan (3)

Another five deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which one was declared as "brought in dead".

These deaths were reported in Selangor (4) and Pahang (1).

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,725 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

There have been 49 reported Covid-19 deaths this month. For comparison, there were 129 deaths last month and 564 deaths in April.

There are 990 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised, of which 38 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (148) followed by Johor (93) and Sabah (48).

Intensive care bed use by Covid-19 patients is on a rise over the past week and is now at levels not seen since May 23.
