Three NGOs today lodged a police report urging a probe on the alleged theft of highway concession agreement documents.

The report was lodged at the Brickfields district police station today by Sekretariat Melayu Muda secretary Syfik Idzywan Sidek.

Two other parties in the report were Gabungan Pemimpin Mahasiswa Malaysia and Jaringan Pelajar Islam Se-Malaysia.

"We question how such secret documents, the concession agreements, could be obtained by certain individuals," said Syfik in the report.

The report did not name the individuals concerned.

Speaking to reporters later, Syfik said the police report was lodged based on the contents of a malaysiakini article published yesterday titled "Samy wants head of toll agreement thief".

The article quoted Works Minister S Samy Vellu calling highway concession agreements 'secret documents'.

Samy said that his ministry also suggested that cabinet orders the Attorney-General chambers to take action against those involved in the alleged leak in such documents.

Yesterday, opposition leaders responsible for divulging details on the Damansara-Puchong Expressway concession agreement said they were 'not frightened' by Samy's threats.

Country stability threatened

In Syfik's police report, he urged the police to take action because those responsible for the document leaks were threatening the 'stability and peace of the country'.

Asked to elaborate, Syfik said there were dire consequences if the documents fell into the wrong hands.

"I know they are fighting for something. But even then, they still have to follow the law. With these documents, they can (for example) incite a riot and burn toll booths. This becomes a very bad situation for the country. There is due process, so we have to follow the law," he said.
