Amanah Youth lodges police report against Najib

Amanah Youth today lodged a police report against former prime minister Najib Abdul Razak at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters.

Amanah Youth chief of strategy Ammar Atan (above, centre) said the report was made under Section 233 of the Communications Act and Sections 499 and 505 of the Penal Code.

“We made a police report against him (Najib) due to the statement he released a few days ago blatantly accusing other parties and turning his head from the problem he caused when his government was in power.

“The intention of his statement was clearly to cause confusion to the rakyat, to throw blame, and to cause unrest towards the current government,” he said.

Ammar was accompanied at the police station by Amanah Youth lawyers, Fadhli Umar and Azri Abdullah.

Azri added on with some details of their police report, citing a few Facebook posts made by the former prime minister.

“These posts contained statements with the intention to manipulate and confuse the public.

“If you look at his post from March and two days ago, he stated that the fine from the Sulu sultanate was only filed in 2019 when the Pakatan Harapan coalition was in government.

“However, if you check the records, you can clearly see that the proceedings started in 2017, two years before the Harapan coalition was in government,” said Azri.

Misleading statements

Meanwhile, Umar stated that Amanah sees Najib’s posts as completely misleading.

“These posts by him (Najib) are blatant lies, and we see it as something that would disrupt the peace of the country.

“These statements could also lead to individuals from the Harapan government to be involved in other false allegations.

“We hope that Najib would stop acting like a ‘cybertrooper’ and avoid coming up with more false stories such as this,” said Umar.

It was recently reported that the Sulu sultanate, which is claiming US$14.92 billion (RM62.59 billion) from Malaysia, was able to seize two Luxembourg-incorporated subsidiaries of Malaysian oil giants Petronas.

Lawyers of the claimants stated that they have seized Petronas Azerbaijan (Shah Deniz) and Petronas South Caucasus, which is reportedly worth US$2 billion.

However, Azri stated that their police report against Najib does not mean that they support the Sulu sultanate.

“It is not our intention to do so. What we want the rakyat to understand is when the cessation of payment occurred, there was an omission and negligence on the part of the government at the time.

“No action was taken against this negligence in court, which has led to this mess that we are in now,” said Azri.
