Covid-19 (July 15): Another spike - 5,230 new cases

COVID-19 | The Health Ministry said 5,230 new daily Covid-19 cases were reported yesterday, bringing the total cumulative cases to 4,613,998. The last time new cases breach 5,000 was in April, three months ago.

Active cases currently stood at 41,208, up 35.7 percent compared to 14 days ago.

New cases according to states are as follows:

Selangor (1,877)

Kuala Lumpur (1,584)

Perak (399)

Sabah (261)

Negeri Sembilan (236)

Penang (219)

Malacca (140)

Johor (107)

Putrajaya (102)

Kedah (76)

Pahang (70)

Sarawak (68)

Kelantan (48)

Terengganu (23)

Labuan (12)

Perlis (8)

Another eight deaths attributed to Covid-19 were reported yesterday, of which one was declared as "brought in dead".

Over the past week, an average of 6.1 people were reported to have died of Covid-19, while the average for the past 30 days was 4.0, indicating that Covid-19 deaths are on the uptrend.

Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, a total of 35,844 deaths have been attributed to Covid-19.

The state with the highest death was Selangor (3), followed by Malacca (2), Perak (1), Sabah (1), Terengganu (1).

There are 1,411 Covid-19 patients who are hospitalised of which 64 are in intensive care.

The highest number of admissions yesterday was recorded in Selangor (184) followed by Johor (81) and Sabah (78).
