YOURSAY | Investigate Apandi for dereliction of duty

YOURSAY | ‘Judge Azimah’s damning judgment against Apandi has virtually crucified him.’

Judge: Apandi disinterested, self-contradictory on Saudi donation

Vijay47: If only the court judgment were a mere but telling condemnation of former attorney-general Apandi Ali personally.

In the particularly strong words that High Court judge Azimah Omar employed to describe the character of the former attorney-general, the contempt extends beyond the person and smears the government itself, the prime minister, and other attorneys-generals.

We again see the quality of officers selected to hold critical positions, apparently only for the purpose of being opportunely useful in suspect activity. How merciful that she also did not refer to Apandi as another national embarrassment.

Judge Azimah’s decision was not only the dismissal of Apandi Ali’s suit against DAP senior leader Lim Kit Siang, it transcended “disinterest, contradiction, or lack of common sense”, it was the thrust of a keris deep into the plaintiff.

Can one imagine the judge being compelled to allude to the “outright untruth” a former AG (who is also a former Federal Court judge) dared attempt to foist upon the court? She literally called him a liar.

Can we imagine Apandi brazenly informing that a MACC delegation had met Arab donors of fabulous sums only to later shamelessly admit that the “Saudi prince refused to meet anybody”?

Yet this is not the bottom of the pit. Against all logic and evidence, he publicly claims that there was nothing amiss with the 1MDB shenanigans and incredibly, he proceeds to represent master-engineer Jho Low in efforts to seduce the Malaysian government towards closure of the scandal.

Incumbent AG Idrus Harun, you are no virgin vestal or otherwise yourself. In even entertaining Apandi to discuss the Jho Low deal, you brought further shame to king, country, and government.

I do not wish to again comment on MACC chief Azam Baki, such sentiments have already been voiced 34,000,000 times.

So tell me, Pembela chairperson Aminuddin Yahaya, would Apandi and his fellow luminaries be leading the Malay Civilisation Day parade?

MS: Vijay47 is right. These leaders represent the essence of the culture Aminuddin is bent on celebrating.

They are the towering Malays, worthy of the titles they continue to hold despite their appalling conduct described with such precision by judges and their wanton violation of everything expected of law-abiding citizens.

Truly, this is ‘ApaMalusia’ in all its glory.

OrangePanther1466: The government ought to seriously reconsider garnishing the compensation settlement Apandi received from his suit for unfair dismissal. As we can see, his dismissal is fully justified.

Please do not hide behind some procedural shortcomings in your dismissal, Apandi. In fact, the AG’s Chambers should take up a case against you for gross dereliction of duty and violation of the oath of office.

FairMind: Given Apandi had lied about the Saudi donor and exculpated Najib, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad is absolutely correct in removing Apandi as the AG. So why did the present AG compensate Apandi?

The AG’s office is the highest legal office of the land; the AG cannot simply exonerate a guilty person through lies and fabrication because he is his friend and because his decision is final.

Apandi even subsequently tried to broker a deal between Jho Low and the present AG further lends weight to his conflict of interest when he was handling the 1MDB affairs as then AG.

He needs to be investigated so that the AG's office is not tainted and to prevent another similar case from happening in future.

The Wakandan: We can only thank God for this judge who straightened things out and said it as it was.

The scale of hypocrisy and the damage done by former premier Najib Abdul Razak's handling of the country was beyond measure.

Apandi was an Umno member, brought in by Najib, as was ex-1MDB CEO too, to whitewash and lie about 1MDB’s role, which was being used as a vehicle to steal the nation’s money.

When investigation was stopped in broad daylight by the sacking of the panel of high-ranking investigating members, Apandi was emboldened even to think that Lim was wrong in questioning him over the 1MDB scam.

It seemed whatever lies Najib said, the people would believe them all. Not so, as the learned judge said so in her verdict.

If we have more Malaysians like her, there may be hope for this country after all.

Proarte: The problem is that even if police reports are lodged against Apandi for criminal negligence in not identifying the 'fabled' Saudi donor and absolving Najib of involvement in the 1MDB mega heist, will AG Idrus press charges against Apandi?

The ruling Malay elites have been nurtured in a corrupt system created by Mahathir. Mahathir is well known for double speak and 'baling batu sembunyi tangan'.

I am very worried that the timing of the judgment is going to help PM Ismail Sabri Yaakob. He will be seen as not interfering with the legal system, but after winning the elections, these kleptocrats and their abettors will be let off the hook or pardoned.

I feel the ideology propagated by Mahathir, which is the main driving force for corruption in Malaysia, is too deeply ingrained to make corrective measures even though it is ultimately going to bring down the Malays together with the nation.

Based on the judgment by Judge Azimah, I think it would be almost impossible for Najib to be successful in his appeal. A pardon for the Guinness record-breaking kleptocrat would be unthinkable.

Najib has to serve full-term in jail together with his henchmen if we are to rehabilitate ourselves as a nation.

Kim Quek: Judge Azimah’s damning judgment against Apandi has virtually crucified him for criminal collusion to exonerate Najib for receiving the RM2.6 billion from the grand heist of public funds in the 1MDB infamy.

It is now a litmus test of the integrity of the leadership of PM Ismail Sabri as to how his government would handle Apandi’s apparent criminality to return justice to the Malaysian people.
