It is now confirmed that there will be no Malaysian release of Marvel Studios’ latest blockbuster Thor: Love and Thunder in cinemas at all.
In a Facebook post, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) simply said: “Thor: Love and Takde” and attached a notice that read:
"Please be informed that Disney has updated that Marvel Studios' Thor: Love and Thunder will not be releasing in Malaysia after all.
“We appreciated your patience and we apologise for any inconvenience caused."
It ended with a tongue-in-cheek request for further support.
"Please buy our merchandise ok."

The movie was initially meant to be screened here on July 7, but this was later postponed until July 21, before being ultimately deferred indefinitely.
The reason for the postponement was not given. It is unclear whether the delay was due to commercial reasons or pressure from censors.
It should be noted that the movie contains a scene where Chris Hemsworth, who plays the titular character of Thor, is shown naked from behind with his posterior clearly visible.
Malaysia is not the only country that has an issue with the film. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the movie appears to be languishing in China’s censorship process.
This is reportedly due to brief LGBTQ moments shown in the film, which alludes that the character Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson, is bisexual and that another character, Korg, is gay.
This comes soon after another Disney movie Lightyear ran afoul with the Malaysian Censorship Board.
The board had approved the movie, which contained scenes it said promoted the “LGBT lifestyle”, with some changes and gave it a PG13 rating. However, Disney refused to screen a censored version of the movie.
