Teresa files bankruptcy notice against Jamal Yunos

Seputeh MP Teresa Kok has filed a bankruptcy notice against Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Yunos over his alleged failure to pay damages of RM351,479.45 as ordered by the High Court arising from her victory in a defamation suit.

“My lawyer SN Nair & Partners has filed a bankruptcy notice against Jamal because he failed to comply with the High Court’s decision in the defamation suit which ordered Jamal to pay the sum of RM300,000 as damages and RM50,000 in legal costs to me.

“I filed a defamation suit against Jamal Yunos on April 6, 2017, because Jamal accused me of embezzling RM2 million of Yayasan Warisan Anak Selangor (Yawas) funds under the Selangor state government,” said Kok (above, right) in a statement today.

On July 26, judicial commissioner Arief Emran Arifin made a decision which ordered Jamal (above, left) to pay damages of RM300,000 to Kok within 14 days along with costs of action of RM50,000.

He also issued an injunction prohibiting Jamal or his agent from repeating the allegation in any format.

“As of today, I have not yet received any compensation and costs from Jamal. The total amount of damages and cost of action together with the interest of the judgment accumulated from July 26, 2022 until Aug 30, 2022 amounts to RM351,479.45.

“Therefore, I instructed my lawyer Mr SN Nair & Partners to file a bankruptcy notice against Jamal due to this careless and indifferent attitude.

“If Jamal still does not comply with the demands of the bankruptcy notice, bankruptcy proceedings will be conducted against him and he may be declared bankrupt at the end of the trial,” said Kok.

Besides Kok, Jamal also claimed that several politicians from the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor had used funds meant for welfare aid for personal gain.

He claimed the politicians withdrew cash from the Yawas fund but never disbursed it to qualified recipients.

Jamal rushed to hospital

In a separate development, Utusan Malaysia reported that Jamal was rushed to hospital last night.

This is after he collapsed during a Selangor BN event in Sungai Besar.

Utusan quoted his son Amin Daniel saying that Jamal had been rushed to Prince Court Hospital and was under observation.

Jamal was reportedly diagnosed with stage four cancer last year, which went into remission in December.
