Veteran RTM deejay and news presenter Constance Haslam has passed away in Versailles, France.

Her long-time friend and fellow radio announcer Patrick Teoh announced the news of her death on his Facebook page today.

Constance was a household name during the pioneering era of the 1970s and 1980s. She was believed to be in her 70s.

“Today, I woke up to the sad news that an old friend, colleague, and former radio announcer, Connie Haslam, has departed for the big radio station in the sky.

“A whole generation of us have listened to her golden voice, reading the news, answering requests, and spinning the top hits of the day.

“Farewell Connie, and keep the music playing up there,” said Teoh.

Her cousin Anne said that she was informed of the death this morning.

“I was shocked because I was in touch with her just two days ago.

“She’s a very upbeat person and she never complains. She said in her message two days ago that she was well and that she was driving her husband for his eye appointment the next day,” Anne told The Star.

Constance had moved to France after retiring from the industry and lived there with her husband, Erwin Behr.
