Congress of Unions of Employees in Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) president Adnan Mat welcomed the initiatives involving civil servants announced in Budget 2023 but sought for these initiatives to be implemented in a timely manner.

“Cuepacs appreciates all the initiatives announced by the government involving civil servants through the Budget 2023 presented in the Dewan Rakyat.

“Cuepacs hopes that the government can channel all these initiatives that were announced through the Prime Minister’s Public Service Council (Mappa) and Budget 2023 by following the set timeline without any delay or bureaucratic process,” Adnan (above) said in a statement yesterday.

Some of the new initiatives he specifically pointed out were the authorisation for early redemption of replacement leaves, up to 50 percent or a maximum of 90 days, compared to the 80 days previously.

There is also the special Aidilfitri cash aid worth RM600, which is said to be paid out in March 2023.

These are additional initiatives on top of what was already announced at the 18th Mappa on Aug 30, Adnan added.

He lamented that the early redemption of replacement leaves of up to 80 days for this year was found to be insufficient as many applications from civil servants could not be fulfilled.

“This situation is, of course, disappointing to those working in the public service, who have been promised this initiative, but could not receive it,” he said.

‘Good initiatives should be continued’

Adnan also urged for these initiatives to be implemented even if there is a change in government in the near future.

“All these good initiatives should be continued by the new government and there is no need to cancel them. Instead, they should be improved,” he said.

At the same time, Adnan assured that the entire civil service will prioritise making Budget 2023 a success.

He noted that the budget was not just about the civil servants, but about the rakyat’s comprehensive well-being.

“In this matter, civil servants have the heaviest responsibility in ensuring the policies and budget framework are successfully implemented,” he added.
