Harapan to meet Muda over seat negotiations tomorrow

Pakatan Harapan and Muda will hold a meeting tomorrow to discuss seat allocations for the upcoming 15th general election (GE15).

Malaysiakini understands the meeting will be held at 12.30pm at the PKR headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

“The process (seat negotiations) may be slow and there may be some disappointments,” said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook, according to the news portal Free Malaysia Today.

“However, no matter what, the process is ongoing and, for me, there are no obstacles to cooperation with Muda,” he added.

The incumbent Seremban MP was quoted saying this at a Muda event in Negeri Sembilan yesterday.

Previously, Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz pushed for Harapan to expedite formal discussion on seat allocation for GE15.

According to the incumbent Puteri Wangsa state assemblyperson, formal discussions have not been held thus far.

She also said she has reached out to Harapan leaders to seek a meeting with the coalition’s presidential council on the issue.

Muda previously agreed to Harapan’s three conditions as part of their electoral pact.

This includes the party backing Harapan’s prime ministerial candidate Anwar Ibrahim.

Other than that, it was detailed that no party was to vie for seats held by their respective incumbents and that Muda is required to obtain the Harapan presidential council’s permission if it sought to work with other parties.

Anwar, who is also the PKR president, had said the coalition was considering an electoral pact with Muda for GE15 - instead of accepting it as a component party.

He said it would be difficult to bring Muda into Harapan as its fifth component party as it would require approval from the Registrar of Societies.
