Small parties will only disrupt votes - Wan Rosdy

Small parties participating in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15) will only serve to disrupt votes, said Pahang Umno chairperson Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail.

While implying that such parties mostly do not have members at the grassroots levels, he also predicted that it would be difficult for these parties to win.

“I feel this may be to split the votes or they feel for certain personal reasons, that they do not agree with the existing government or parties.

“So I do not understand why there are new parties but we do not see their direction and we do not know their track record,” Wan Rosdy said.

The Pahang menteri besar also claimed that those who formed the small parties were people who “failed” in the Pakatan Harapan administration they were part of for only 22 months.

Wan Rosdy said this in Kuantan when asked to elaborate on his remarks that several small parties are seen as rudderless in GE15.

When asked if he was referring to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Pejuang, the Umno leader declined to comment further.

“I think we are all mature, they can think for themselves who I am referring to,” he said.

On the various “outsider” parties expected to contest in Pahang this election, Wan Rosdy said this has happened in the past.

“Before this, there were also outside parties, I have (contested in) three-cornered, four-cornered fights and independent (candidates) have also joined, this is a normal thing,” he added.
