PSB to field Baru in Lawas

Parti Sarawak Bersatu (PSB) will field its secretary-general Baru Bian as a candidate for Lawas.

This was confirmed by PSB president Wong Soon Koh, according to Malay Mail.

Baru (above) scored a major upset in 2018 when he wrested Selangau from BN.

Lawas has long been a BN stronghold and is currently held by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) and Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu's Henry Sum Agong.

However, Baru can count on the support of Ba'kelalan - a constituency which returned him to the Sarawak legislative assembly in 2020.

Ba'kelalan is one of two constituencies which made up the Lawas parliamentary constituency.

Both Henry and Baru are of the Lun Bawang ethnic minority group. Henry is 76 this year while Baru is 64.

Meanwhile, Wong said PSB was still searching for a candidate for Selangau.

PSB was also fielding candidates for Lubok Antu, Miri, Serian, Sri Aman and Sibu.
