A “technical disruption” caused multiple train stations along the Kelana Jaya LRT line to be closed, with commuters advised to take its free shuttle buses instead.
According to official announcements by Rapid KL on social media, stations between Kelana Jaya and Ampang Park are closed.
This affects 16 of the line’s 37 stations, particularly those around the Kuala Lumpur city centre.
The matter was first announced at 3.32pm. At the time, it said a technical disruption is causing its trains between the KLCC station and Kelana Jaya station to stop for longer at their stations.
About 20 minutes later, however, it announced the complete shutdown of those 16 stations. The cause of the latest shutdown has yet to be disclosed.
The ongoing shutdown came as rush hour traffic was about to pick up, and the city is hit by heavy rains.
Rapid KL is redirecting commuters to two shuttle bus service lines instead – one running between the Lembah Subang and Pasar Seni stations, and the other between Masjid Jamek and Damai.
The Kelana Jaya line between Putra Heights and Lembah Subang stations, and between Damai and Gombak LRT stations, are still operating, it said.
The latest disruptions come on the heels of a series of problems over the weekend, which required trains along the Kelana Jaya line to be driven manually at a portion of the line and stop longer at its stations.
In a statement earlier today, Rapid KL said the earlier issue was caused by an unstable automatic train control system (ATC) which started on Saturday morning (Nov 5).
The problem was resolved by Sunday morning but started recurring on Monday morning.
This caused the Kelana Jaya line to close early last night at 11.15pm, with some stations closing even earlier at 10.15pm.
“At the end of operating hours, technical and engineering teams assisted by Thales Group, Canada as the original equipment manufacturer have conducted an investigation to identify the root cause of the disruptions.
“As of 5.30am today, the engineers have managed to stabilise the ATC and train services have resumed. As a safety precaution, however, the system is still under monitoring to ensure continued stability,” it said.
