Lets all walk with Ramli

The likes of ex-Sabah ACA chief Mohamad Ramli Abdul Manan are few but with our show of support, this will encourage others to come forward.

On Please don't let Ramli walk alone

Arif: I think this a good idea to set up a legal fund for Ramli as it will send a strong signal that the rakyat support the effort to bring to the open the abuse of power and corruption. The likes of Ramli are few but with our show of support, this will encourage others to come forward.

I suggest an establishment, maybe Transparency International, to be in charge of the fund-to-be-set-up. I will put RM200 into the fund.

An Old Man: I fully agree with Merlin. We don't have many Ramlis around. Very much as we like to think well of Dr Mahathir (because we have a lesser man now at the helm?), he was instrumental in introducing and entrenching the whole culture of blatant corruption to the country.

I was like Ramli once - I went to the ROC (Registrar of Companies), CIC (Capital Issues Committee) - the predecessors of COC (Commission of Companies) and SC (Securities Commission) respectively - and the police to expose a second-board scam many years ago. To my horror, I nearly became the 'target' instead.

If there is a way I can chip in to support Ramli, I would like to do my part - anonymously of course. Would you like to start a 'financial support fund' for Ramli?

Albert Wong: I agree with Merlin and his good idea of not letting Che Ramli be alone. Will the editor of malaysiakini take the lead to start a fund to help Ramli who I'm sure needed to fight this good course? Likewise, I'll be too happy to contribute RM100.

Shiva: I am for it - RM100 - provided there is an official source of collection online. Please keep me posted.

Aaron Yap: Yes, I truly support the idea! Let us show to those corrupt political superpowers , we stand unite to fight off corruption!

BOLH: I am more than happy to chip in my share of RM50 towards such a worthy cause. It's time we put words into actions to rid this nation of this scourge. I hope all well-meaning Malaysians will take up the banner of goodwill and walk behind Ramli at his hour of need.

Justice: I fully support the suggestion that Ramli should not be left alone standing in the middle and cold with the rest of the Malaysians, just only clapping to urge him on. We need to do more than that. He is certainly a Malaysian hero and we need to support him financially too in his legal bid.

Will some organisation whose trustworthiness is beyond question start a fund and manage it for Ramli or if that is not possible for whatever reason, please publicise Ramli's bank account number with his permission, and let Malaysians do the rest to support him. I salute this true Malaysian.

Editor's note: Thank you for the enthusiastic responses to Merlin's suggestion. We are looking at the legal issues involved in the setting of such a fund. However, if malaysiakini is unable to launch such an initiative, we will seek the assistance of another reputable organisation to start the fund.

On June date for Mongolian murder trial

Teropong Negara: All this means that our general election will take place only after July, that is, after this case has been heard in the court and the court judgement has been made. Earlier, it was planned to have it after the general election and the hearing date was therefore fixed on March 10 next year.

This gives some credibility to the speculation that the forthcoming general election would be held after the 50th anniversary of our National Day, Aug 31, and before the start of fasting month sometime in November.

Finally, what continue to baffle me about this case is that why has there been no query from the public that a proper investigation be conducted to find out how C4 explosives - a high security item was taken out of the police armoury on the fateful night of the murder. Who authorised and approved it? Is this consistent with the standard operating procedure (SOP)?

On Allow EPF savings to be used to pay off loans

Rakyat Malaysia: What benefit do we can get from the EPF? EPF should provide support to contributors who needed financial help to settle their debt. But EPF is only interested in providing financial support to those GLCs which are facing financial problems, not its own contributors.

As we know, financial institutions will keep on charging interests, legal fees and late charges without any concession. So we have this debt that keep on increasing our burden. Why not the prime minister/Bank Negara/Ministry of Finance/EPF chief look into this? We as EPF contributors are happy to get EPF help. Why not EPF help us?
