Umno supreme council member Noh Omar said he has been sacked from the party.

Speaking to reporters at the Umno headquarters, Noh (above) said the supreme council had initially suspended him for six years.

However, Noh - who was present at the meeting - said he had demanded to be sacked instead.

"Why suspend me? Instead, I asked to be sacked. And the president (Ahmad Zahid Hamidi) obliged and gave me the boot with immediate effect,” he said.

Umno information chief Isham Jalil confirmed this version of events in a Facebook post.

Isham also said that the party had initially decided to suspend Noh for "disciplinary breaches" during the 15th general election, but did not go into details.

Meanwhile, Noh said Umno is no longer the party he joined 46 years ago.

"What is the use of being with a party which has strayed from its original struggles," he said.

The former Tanjung Karang MP said there were others besides him who were either suspended or sacked, but declined to divulge details.

"There was a long list read out, including other names besides mine," Noh stated.

The Umno supreme council meeting has ended, but leaders are keeping mum on the outcome.

Umno vice-president Khaled Nordin, however, told reporters that action taken today was based on recommendations from the party's disciplinary board.
