‘Bomb scare’ turns out to be homeless man’s luggage bag

A luggage bag covered in black plastic was suspected to be a bomb as it was left all by itself at a train station in Subang Jaya, Selangor yesterday.

Found by patrol officers at 4.05pm, the Subang Jaya district police headquarters (IPD) immediately requested the local bomb unit to conduct inspections on the bag.

However, district police assistant commissioner Wan Azlan said about half an hour after the investigation was called, the bomb unit’s inspection was cancelled after a 50-year-old man claimed the bag was his.

The police searched the luggage’s contents and found that it did not contain any dangerous or illegal items, only the clothes and personal items of the man.

He was said to be homeless and often travelled within the district with his luggage, moving the covered-up bag from place to place.

Eventually, the case was classified as “no further action” (NFA) and the police advised the public that if they find a suspicious bag or package, immediately contact them for security purposes.
