Amirudin serves letter of demand to Sanusi, seeks apology, RM10m

Caretaker Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari has sent a letter of demand to his Kedah counterpart Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor over the latter’s allegedly defamatory speech while campaigning in Jitra, Kedah recently.

This is after the PAS leader accused him of being involved in a scandal with Berjaya Group founder Vincent Tan in the Sungai Klang river cleaning project.

According to Amirudin’s (above, left) office, the letter was served to the PAS leader at 7.36pm today.

Among others, the Selangor Pakatan Harapan chairperson wants Sanusi to retract and apologise within 48 hours for his statement, and pay RM10 million in compensation for the “false and malicious” allegation.

In addition, Sanusi is told to pay RM100,000 compensation for “costs” to Amirudin associated with the allegedly defamatory speech.

Yesterday, Amirudin said he would press ahead with suing Sanusi to defend his credibility as the caretaker menteri besar.

Sanusi in a speech during the Jelajah Mega PN Best Sayangi Kedah Sejahtera at Dataran Darul Aman, Jitra, alleged a scandal between Amirudin and Tan, who wanted to implement an RM10 billion project in Sungai Klang.

Amirudin called Sanusi’s claim a desperate move to divert attention from his own scandals, adding that the issue had been answered in the Selangor state assembly earlier.

Berjaya Land Berhad also denied Sanusi’s accusations and called them accusatory, false, malicious, and baseless.

On Monday, Tan issued a letter of demand to Sanusi, while demanding a public apology and for him to pay RM200 million in compensation.

Sanusi has refused to apologise, claiming the case is “still developing” and more documents will be revealed.
