Muhyiddin casts doubts on PM's strategies under 12MP

PARLIAMENT | Muhyiddin Yassin (PN-Pagoh) has questioned Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's ability to implement strategies listed under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) towards strengthening governance and integrity to rebuild the people's trust.

The Perikatan Nasional chairperson in his debate of the 12MP mid-term review mocked Anwar's promised reforms, citing various developments since the 15th general election last year.

"YAB Tambun (Anwar) in tabling the 12MP review cited a hadith on the importance of amanah (integrity).

"This is a good statement but I am doubtful of his ability to fulfil what was promised," said Muhyiddin.

"Tatakelola (governance) is now tatakelaut (has gone awry).

"Not even a year in government, but 'reformasi' promises made since 20 years ago have now become 'reformati' (dead)," he said.

Among others, Muhyiddin claimed unfulfilled promises so far included a goal to reduce the developmental gaps between states, as well as for equal allocation to all MPs.

New challenges

The Bersatu president also questioned whether the present poverty eradication model remains realistic, taking into account rising prices of goods and current inflation.

While noting that official government data showed the number of registered hardcore poor households has been reduced to 118,217 as of May this year, he said there are new challenges including a reported surge in the price of rice.

"The reality is that the poverty eradication model has changed from one strictly focused on household income to a multidimensional model - poor education, poor health, poor basic needs, and poor living standards.

"Therefore, a realistic poverty eradication model must be created before promising to eradicate poverty," Muhyiddin said.
