PN’s Kuala Kangsar rep backs Anwar, insists still loyal to Bersatu

Bersatu’s Kuala Kangsar MP Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid has voiced support for Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s premiership, citing the rising cost of living in his constituency.

He said his decision was also meant to test whether the prime minister was sincere in providing allocation to any MP who supports the unity government’s policies.

“I believe the nation’s economy needs to be elevated for the sake of the nation’s prosperity and harmony.

“Therefore, I support the prime minister in efforts to strengthen the economy,” he said in a statement today.

For the record, Anwar did not make any public announcement requiring opposition MPs - who currently do not get any federal funding to service their constituents - to support the government’s policies to be eligible for the allocation.

Instead, the Tambun MP and other backbenchers have repeatedly told opposition lawmakers to hold discussions with the government to get equal allocations and assured that the government is open to such talks.

Meanwhile, Iskandar emphasised he remains loyal to Bersatu, even though he acknowledged that he risks facing disciplinary action.

“Although I may face disciplinary action from the party, I’m unwilling to see voters in my constituency continue to be neglected and left behind over arguments on political narrative,” he added.

In an immediate response, Perak Menteri Besar Saarani Mohamad reportedly said Iskandar should be referred to the Dewan Rakyat speaker.

This was because only the speaker could decide whether Iskandar was in violation of anti-hopping laws, the Malay Mail quoted him as saying.
