Rahmah cash aid to be improved, increased

BUDGET 2024 | The Rahmah cash aid (STR) scheme will be improved and increased under Budget 2024, as tabled by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim in the Dewan Rakyat today.

As proposed under the new budget, the maximum amount of aid that can be received under STR has been increased from RM3,100 to RM3,700.

The minimum rate for youths receiving STR will also increase from RM350 to RM500.

The first STR payment to eligible households will also be increased from RM300 to RM500, which Anwar said will hopefully be channelled to them before Ramadan next year.

The prime minister also announced the expansion of the Rahmah Basic Aid (Sara) scheme by offering it to 700,000 STR recipients who will receive RM100 a month for a period of 12 months, to be credited into their MyKad.

Previously, the Sara scheme only covered 200,000 recipients over a period of six months.

Children’s helmets

The government will also use a portion of its revenue from the sale of special car plate numbers to bear the costs of the driving tests for class B2 motorcycles, e-hailing and taxi licences for over 40,000 youths from lower-income families.

A total of 100,000 children’s helmets will be given to lower-income families as well, he said.

The flight ticket subsidies for students who want to visit their hometowns, which were introduced this year, will be continued next year.

It is expected to benefit almost 60,000 students from lower-income families.
