PAS to highlight solidarity with Palestine at 69th muktamar

PAS will underscore the party's solidarity with the Palestinian struggle for freedom in its 69th annual muktamar (assembly), to be held in Shah Alam from Friday until this weekend.

Its secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said the solidarity theme will first be outlined by party supremo Abdul Hadi Awang in his policy speech on Saturday, which will be debated by delegates, followed by several planned activities.

"The activities include doa wehdah (a special prayer recited to give strength to warriors in battle), fundraiser, protest and launch of an aid mission by PAS Relief and NGOs," said Takiyuddin (above) in a statement.

He also said the line-up of international observers invited to attend the muktamar's opening will include political party leaders from Palestine, Turkiye, Middle Eastern nations and others, alongside NGO leaders.

At the same time, he said PAS has also withdrawn invitations issued to several foreign missions here from countries that had "openly backed Israel regime's attacks in the Gaza Strip and West Bank”.

As for local leaders, Takiyuddin said former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad has confirmed his attendance, alongside PN component leaders and others from NGOs.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim condemned Israel for "attacking" a hospital in the Gaza Strip, an incident that he described as "madness" by the Zionist regime.

Hamas has blamed Israel for the attack but the Israeli military claimed the hospital was hit by a rocket misfired by other Palestinian militants.
