I won't yield to Western pressure on Palestine - Anwar

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim claims he is coming under pressure from Western powers, particularly the US and Europe, for his outspoken advocacy for the Palestinian people.

He vowed to never yield to any threats against the struggle to liberate Palestine from Zionist oppression.

“I have received much criticism, threats… I say you’ve picked the wrong side.

“Malaysia is a free and independent country. Malaysia will remain a sovereign nation that upholds freedom and the freedom of the Palestinian people.

“Long live Palestine! Free Palestine! Allahu Akbar (God is Great)!” he said at a pro-Palestine rally at Axiata Stadium, Bukit Jalil, tonight.

Tens of thousands of people gathered at the rally including various NGOs, political leaders, and leaders of various faiths.

Anwar said Malaysia under his leadership no longer sends messages on Palestine from a distance.

Instead, he has travelled to meet leaders of the Islamic world to express support for stopping the attacks on Palestinians.

He said he delivered Malaysia’s message to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed Salman, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, and Turkiye President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Anwar’s meetings - and the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine - had taken place at a time when many Arab countries were seeking to normalise relations with Israel.
