MACC has denied contacting Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan over his allegation of being offered a bribe to support Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Nonetheless, MACC chief Azam Baki said the Bersatu lawmaker should file a report over his claims.

“None of my officers contacted him. It could be anyone who contacted him claiming to be from the MACC.

“But what is important is that Wan Saiful should come to the MACC to lodge a report because when someone is offered a bribe they should go to the police or MACC to make a report,” he said at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.

He added that the MACC wanted to know more details, and assured a fair and transparent investigation into his claims.

Yesterday, Wan Saiful (above) claimed in the Dewan Rakyat that he was offered, among others, RM1.7 million in constituency funds if he were to support Anwar as premier.

He then claimed to have been contacted by the MACC just an hour after his speech in Parliament.

Thus far, six Bersatu MPs have effectively defected from the party by declaring support for Anwar, while not resigning from the party.

Bersatu is looking to plug this loophole this weekend by amending the party’s constitution.
