'Betrayal is betrayal': PAS MP warns Bersatu rep of divine retribution

A PAS lawmaker has warned Bersatu’s Selat Klang assemblyperson Abdul Rashid Asari of divine retribution for turning his back on the Perikatan Nasional coalition.

Jerantut MP Khairil Nizam Khirudin told Malaysiakini that Rashid, who declared his support for the leadership of Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari last week, would not be spared from God’s wrath for committing treason.

“This treacherous person will not be safe from God’s punishment.

“We live in this world where there is God and one of the characteristics of believers is to stick to their promises. So, don’t give excuses,” he said.

Reiterating that Rashid should not give excuses, Khairil said: “If it’s betrayal, it’s a betrayal.”

However, he refused further comments on the assemblyperson’s allegation that PAS “seized” a seat from Bersatu.

Among others, Rashid had cited his unhappiness with PAS as one of the reasons for supporting the Pakatan Harapan menteri besar.

The assemblyperson said he was disappointed with the issue of seat distribution in PN.

Rashid claimed that ahead of the 15th general election in 2022, Bersatu together with PAS and Gerakan had agreed on the distribution of seats, which was later broken by PAS.

He claimed that the Kapar parliament seat won by PAS was initially allocated to Bersatu.

Previously, the former Selangor Bersatu chairperson claimed that a cartel comprising those who recently joined the party were controlling the state chapter.

Although he did not mention names, it is believed that Rashid, who also said he was upset with the manner in which Bersatu treated him, was referring to his successor and state opposition leader Azmin Ali.

However, Bersatu president Muhyiddin Yassin rubbished this allegation.
