Sungai Bakap assemblyperson Nor Zamri Latiff, 56, died at the Seberang Jaya Hospital intensive care unit in Penang this afternoon.

Penaga assemblyperson Mohd Yusni Mat Piah confirmed the death of the PAS lawmaker in a Facebook post.

“Sungai Bakap assemblyperson Nor Zamri Latiff drew his last breath at 1.38pm, Friday, May 24, at the Seberang Jaya Hospital ICU.

“The final prayer and funeral will be held at 6pm today at Masjid Sungai Acheh, Nibong Tebal,” said Yusni.

On May 1, Nor Zamri was admitted to the hospital for treatment due to inflammation in the stomach.

Penang PAS commissioner Muhammad Fauzi Yusoff reportedly said he was informed by a family member about Nor Zamri’s health condition after he was placed in a medically induced coma a day after admission.

Nor Zamri, who is also PAS Nibong Tebal division chief, contested the state election last August and defeated Pakatan Harapan candidate Nurhidayah Che Rose with a majority of 1,563 votes.
