Anwar, Muhyiddin settle defamation suits against each other

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and ex-premier Muhyiddin Yassin have settled their defamation suits against each other.

In a joint statement on their Facebook accounts today, the two veteran politicians from opposing political coalitions agreed to resolve the civil actions previously pending before the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

The PKR president and Bersatu president said they agreed to withdraw their lawsuits after taking into account the impact of the civil actions in general and the advice of the civil court judge, as well as the current situation in the country that needs to be prioritised, especially issues faced by the people.

Muhyiddin sued Anwar over the allegation that the former did not take steps to complete the RM8.3 billion debt write-off for Felda settlers.

Anwar, on the other hand, sued Muhyiddin over the allegation that the former received RM15 million payment as Selangor’s economic adviser.

In their joint posts, Anwar and Muhyiddin expressed hope that all parties will respect the decision taken.

“We agree to not issue any further statements over the matter.

“We also hope that this matter will not be used to disrupt the harmony and public stability as well as the people’s confidence in the nation’s judicial institution,” both said.
