Gua Musang MP asks Harapan, BN to let him defend seat if declared vacant

Gua Musang MP Mohd Azizi Abu Naim has asked Pakatan Harapan and BN to step aside and allow him to defend his seat should it be declared vacant.

At the same time, Azizi said he had given way to the two coalitions to contest his former state seat Nenggiri, which was declared vacant by Kelantan state assembly speaker Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah.

“I will ask the party leadership (of Harapan and BN) to allow me to contest.

“I contested under the Perikatan Nasional ticket previously. Gua Musang is not a targeted seat (for PN). For two years (before the last general election), we struggled, and I have been doing the work,” he said at a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

Azizi (above) is among seven PN elected representatives who previously switched their support to the federal government and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

Leaving it to fate

On June 19, Amar announced that the Nenggiri state seat was vacant following a notice sent by Bersatu stating that Azizi's party membership had been terminated.

On June 24, Dewan Rakyat speaker Johari Abdul confirmed receiving a notice of vacancy regarding the seats of six Bersatu MPs whose memberships have been terminated, and that he would announce his decision within 21 days.

Azizi said he had sent a letter of explanation about his position in Bersatu to Johari on June 27 and is confident that Johari will make the best decision regarding the matter.

When asked about his hopes that the Gua Musang parliamentary seat would not be vacated like the Nenggiri state seat, Azizi said he would leave it to Allah.

“For me, I leave it to Allah, leave it to fate. I am confident that the Dewan Rakyat speaker will decide based on the Constitution,” he added.
