Don't run, don't delay, start allocation talks now - PM tells opposition

PARLIAMENT | Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has told the opposition to hasten the negotiation for allocations.

The Tambun MP said there was no need for the opposition to resort to running or jogging for its allocations - a jab against Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman (Muda-Muar) who recently ran 200km from Muar to Parliament to raise funds for his constituency.

“There’s no need to run or jog, no need.

“Just negotiate, it will be settled once there are discussions,” Anwar said.

On June 30, Syed Saddiq completed his run outside Parliament at 9.30am, raising RM60,000 more than his RM100,000 goal.

The funds will be channelled to his constituents through the establishment of a service centre, and food baskets.

The run, dubbed “Langkah Muar”, was protest against the government for not giving constituency allocations for opposition lawmakers.

Anwar told Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) that every democratic country provides the opposition with allocations through a negotiation process.

“I have given full mandate to Deputy Prime Minister II Fadillah Yusof (GPS-Petra Jaya) to hold discussions.

“And there is no condition that (the opposition members) have to support the prime minister, none,” he added.

Referring to his time as the opposition head, Anwar said he held several discussions with then-prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob for allocations.

After that, the allocations were decided and finalised, he said.
