Teoh Beng Hock investigation papers passed to AGC - Saifuddin

The police’s investigation papers on the Teoh Beng Hock case have been passed to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), said Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

"The Royal Malaysia Police has called back the witnesses to complete the investigation papers and it has been passed to the AGC for comments and views,” he said.

Saifuddin said this in a written parliamentary reply to Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng, who asked about the latest updates for the investigations into the deaths of Teoh and firefighter Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim and the government's follow-up actions.

The Kuala Lumpur High Court fixed July 29 to decide on the judicial review brought by Teoh’s family over his death.

Teoh was found dead on July 16, 2009, on the fifth-floor service corridor of Plaza Masalam in Shah Alam after being questioned overnight at the Selangor MACC headquarters on the 14th floor.

At the time of his death, Teoh was a political aide to Selangor executive councillor and DAP Seri Kembangan assemblyperson Ean Yong Hian Wah.

Adib’s case

As for Adib’s case, Saifuddin referred to a cabinet decision which formed a special committee to look into the matter.

“The special committee began the investigation process on Dec 12, 2021, and submitted its final report to the government and the consideration of the Legal Affairs Division under the Prime Minister's Department,” he said.

He was referring to an announcement made by then-prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob that an expert committee had been formed to look into Adib’s death.

Adib died at the National Heart Institute on Dec 17, 2018, succumbing to injuries sustained while on duty during riots near the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Subang Jaya, Selangor about a month prior.

In September 2020, coroner Rofiah Mohamad ruled that Adib's death was a criminal act perpetrated by two or three unidentified assailants during a riot outside the temple in November 2018.

However, investigators have yet to be able to identify the alleged perpetrators.

In 2022, the government paid Adib’s family an RM1.5 million ex-gratia compensation.
