Sanusi confirms marrying cop as second wife, addresses rumours

Kedah Menteri Besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has reportedly confirmed marrying a police officer as his second wife.

He finally chose to address the rumours surrounding the circumstances of the marriage as it had escalated to claims that he was caught in close proximity (khalwat) with the police officer.

Sanusi clarified that he first met his new wife when the latter was investigating an arson case at his official residence.

“My (new) wife is not investigating the rare earth element case. She was the investigator in a ‘bomb’ incident at the menteri besar official residence. The bomb exploded, and a container caught fire.

"I met her for the first and last time for the bomb investigation, many police came to record a statement, and after that, she became my (first) wife’s friend.

"She joined the same religious class as my (first) wife, but we didn’t become friends, we only fell in love after marriage.

“I would like to inform all of you that love after marriage is more beautiful than before marriage, so I hope after this, there are no more speculations,” he told reporters in Kuala Nerang.

Sanusi is facing investigations over alleged theft of rare earth resources in the state, while a former aide has claimed trial to charges of accepting a bribe in relation to a rare earth project.

However, the investigation is being conducted by the MACC, not the police.

‘Respect privacy’

Meanwhile, Sanusi also revealed that his first wife, Jusmalailani Jusoh, was the one who asked for the police officer’s hand in marriage several months ago and subsequently attended their wedding along with all their children.

"I didn’t wish to make an announcement as I want to prevent unnecessary sensationalising (of the second marriage).

"I pity all of you (reporters) for chasing me… I didn’t feel that there was any issue, I still have two more ‘quotas’… They (the critic) just want to say that PAS ‘lebai’ only think about getting married,” he said.

Sanusi urged the public to respect his and his family’s privacy.
