DAP rep rebuts PAS Youth for exploiting religious sentiments

DAP central committee member Lee Chin Chen is puzzled over PAS Youth deputy chief Mohd Hafez Sabri’s plan to organise a mass rally this Friday, ostensibly under the pretext of defending Islam.

Lee contended that this was an attempt to incite Muslim sentiment and falsely accuse the DAP of being anti-Islam.

He highlighted that Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming had already clarified that the performers for the Christmas celebration were predominantly non-Muslims and that participation in the event was not mandatory for civil servants.

Despite this, PAS continues to harp on the issue.

“This clearly demonstrates PAS’ intention to provoke Muslim emotions for its own political agenda,” the Bilut assemblyperson remarked.

He emphasised that the DAP has consistently expressed its respect for Islam as Malaysia’s official religion while supporting the constitutional guarantee of religious freedom for all other communities.

“However, PAS has persistently demonised the DAP and is now fabricating accusations against DAP ministers, alleging they are anti-Islam,” he added.

PAS asserting authority

Lee further noted that PAS seems to position itself as the sole spokesperson for Islam, asserting authority over all matters related to the religion.

He warned that such an attitude is highly dangerous, as it risks fuelling racial and religious tensions within Malaysian society.

Lee urged PAS to acknowledge that Malaysia is a multicultural and multi-religious nation, where mutual respect and tolerance among all communities are crucial for societal progress and harmony.

The youth wings of PAS and Bersatu today announced they would hold a joint rally on Friday (Jan 3) in Kuala Lumpur.

This is over a sense of feeling “threatened”, with intentions to highlight statements related to DAP leaders Nga Kor Ming and Hannah Yeoh, said Hafez.

He claimed that over 1,000 participants will gather at the Sultan Abdul Samad Jamek Mosque in Kampung Baru at an unspecified time.
